Up Til Dawn

It’s that time of year again for Up ’til Dawn and time for Greeks to give their support. Up ’til Dawn is a strictly university run program that raises money for Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a hospital that works with children who have been stricken with cancer at no cost to the patient’s families. The cost for this is enormous so with the help of programs like Up ’til Dawn students get a chance to give back to such a bold effort. Chico held its annual event on November 8th, 2010 in Acker Gym with vast support from the...

Alpha Delta Pi Retreat

Even though it’d been raining all weekend with no end in sight, it didn’t stop the ladies of Alpha Delta Pi from packing up and heading to Lake Shasta for their annual weekend retreat. Chapter retreat is always a fun weekend filled with sisterhood and bonding. The rain didn’t put a damper on the activities that were usually held outside. Instead over 80 girls managed to all fit in the living room, a challenge which was a testament to sisterhood in itself. For the retreat 4-Greeks designed a v-neck shirt which read “You know you love us, Alpha Delta Pi...

Chico State - Greek Week 2010 - Greek Olympics -

The Greek Olympics for Greek Week is one of the biggest events of the week.  All teams come together and compete in a wide variety of competitions.  It is in a way, like the actual Olympics, which were of course, started by the Greeks.  Competitions include sack races, tarp races, water relays, water balloon toss, and tug-o-war.  All organizations competed against each other with their team, which consisted of one sorority and two fraternities.  The competitions went on all afternoon and were full of high energy and team spirit.  DJ Carl and DJ Ruben from Theta Chi played music that...

Gamma Phi Beta Retreat 2011

As a part of Greek Week, Chico State’s very own Gamma Phi Beta invited speaker Becky Bell to campus to speak to Greeks and athletes alike.  Becky Bell is the Associate Athletic Director at the University of Arizona and an integral part in the “Step Up! Make a Difference!” Presentation made across college campuses.  She spoke about being a leader, taking care of others, and helping others.  She spoke about not caring what other people think of you and do what you think is the right thing.  This presentation comes at a prime time for Greeks, in the middle of...

Greek Week 2010 - Blood Drive - Gamma Phi Beta Giving Blood

The event for Greek week on Monday and Tuesday was the blood drive competition, hosted by BloodSource.  I was skeptical about this event at first because many people have fears of donating, but the turn out was awesome! I was one of the first people in the door, number 19 to be exact, and by the time I left 30 minutes later, they were calling number 108. The blood drive was in the BMU auditorium (as usual) but this year was different. The floor was filled with Greeks wearing their power letters, both as workers for the event and as...

Wing Eating Contest - Greek Week 2010

Greek Week is well underway and during halftime at the one of the biggest events of the week, the dodge ball tournament, the “Wing King” competition was held. The competition was sponsored by Mad Dash Pizza and Wings, a local company that is known for their tear-jerking hot wings. The event was split into two separate categories, in the first one representative from each chapter was to eat as many regular chicken wings as they possibly could in a 5 minute face stuffing frenzy. 15 contenders  stepped up for the challenge, and the winners were decided by weighing the remainder...

Chico State - Greek Week - 2010 - Dodgeball

Nothing summarizes the spirit and energy of Greek Week more than the annual dodge ball tournament. In the spirit of the Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn comedy flick, teams from each fraternity and sorority competed against each other throughout the day in heated competition while wearing a v ariety of outfits and uniforms. Greek life teamed up with University Housing and Food Service, enabling the freshman to compete in a typically “Greeks Only,” event. This gave them a sneak peek into the spirit of Greek life and incorporated their own Residence Halls’ Spirit Week into Greek Week. The tournament was...

Alpha Sigma Phi Members Helping with the Sand Box

To start Greek Week off, Saturday was filled with windmills, volunteering, and dodgeball.  Three participants from each team were to volunteer at the Chico Community Children’s Center off of Elm Street, which fit into this year’s theme “Kids These Days.”  The contributor’s were to help fix up the center’s garden by planting seeds, weeding, making signs for the vegetables, and painting a shed.  Everyone represented their chapter by wearing a shirt that stated which sorority/fraternity they were a part of. Everyone met at the Children’s Center at 11:30 in the morning to

Toy Story Themed Windmill

The campus-wide windmill building competition was done on Saturday the 9th and portrayed the passion and creative spark that the greek community possesses. In the past, Chico State’s greek week featured a parade of lights where each team built a float that participated in the city-wide parade. Unfortunately, the woman that owned the parade passed away before the greek week of 2009. Last year, each team created a large back drop that was related to each team’s them. My team’s theme last year was the decade of the 1920s and our back drop featured a speakeasy and silhouettes of people...

Alpha Gamma Delta - I'm on a Boat Racerback Tank Retreat 2010

Every year there is one event your sorority or fraternity can all look forward to, and that’s the retreat. A chance to get away and spend a weekend or week with some of your closest friends, having fun and letting loose. Alpha Gamma Delta at Chico State recently went on a sisterhood retreat to Lake Almanor, located about an hour and a half outside of Chico. We spent the day wakeboarding, tubing, lounging in the sun, eating good food and bonding with our sisters. The whole event and experience was enhanced by our retreat shirts, designed by 4-Greeks. The shirt...
