Larry Bassow Fundraiser Chico State

The Greek Community at Chico State has made tremendous progress in the past five years, and much of that growth and development has been due to the constant hard work of Greek Life Advisor Larry Bassow. As an alumni of a Greek chapter at Chico, Larry has devoted his time and energy into truly helping students learn and take advantage of all that Greek Life has to offer them. That is why when Larry was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer this year, the entire Greek Community rallied to help him in any way they could.

All Greek Shirt Chico State

On Monday night members from chapters of Interfraternity, Panhellenic and Multicultural Councils came together to show their support for a man who has dedicated invaluable amounts of time to Greek Life here at California State University, Chico.

The Orion Article on Phi Kappa Tau's Porno and Chi Tau's Hazing Death

As a Greek at Chico State, we are more than just familiar with the dissenting perspective the media has shed on us, it’s become a way of life. In all fairness, we have brought it on ourselves: Chi Tau did haze a pledge causing his death and Phi Kappa Tau did host a pornographic movie. The truth is that these events occurred 7 years ago, and utterly jeopardized any future Greek Life might have had at California State University – Chico. Today, 7 years after these events occurred, Greek Life is thriving. We have done our best to put these...

Larry Bassow's Up Til Dawn Tattoo

Chico State has been the top school as far as fundraising goes for Up ‘Til Dawn.  While students and advisor Larry Bassow are still awaiting the results from last year, they have already began planning for next years Up ‘Til Dawn, which will occur on November 7, 2011.  Over 10 years, Chico State has raised over $1,180, 000.00. Much of this fundraising was done under the advising of Larry Bassow, who has been advising Up ‘Til Dawn since the 2004-2005 school year.  Bassow is extremely dedicated to Up ‘Til Dawn as he is to all of the organizations he...

Social media provides a ton of information about Greek Life.   You Tube especially has an endless number of both informative and purely entertaining videos about sororities and fraternities.  One such video called Top Reasons To Join a So-RAWR-ity is a parody about sororities, which was created based on information found on totalfratmove.com.  This video is hilarious, but obviously discusses many stereotypes.  Each point deserves a response: 1. You will face a lot of tough decisions when you first go off to college, these include where to live, when to have class, and what to eat, this is most people’s first...

4 Greeks Staff Weekly Meeting at Dragon Graphics

We all know that 4 Greeks was made with the idea of promoting the highest quality graphic design, apparel and Greek lifestyle. What you may not  know is how hard students, just like you, are working to make this small organization develop and grow into something bigger. Every Tuesday night an ever-growing group of representatives from the Chico Greek Community meet on the corner of 5th and Mangrove at Dragon Graphics. Meetings run late, with agendas about four pages long. The quality of work and effort put into this organization is incredible. Everyone brings their own personal skills to the...

Becoming a member of the Greek community comes with great responsibility. Once you are Greek you become more accountable for your actions and the actions of your brothers or sisters. The fate of your chapter’s existence tomorrow is reliant on your ability to represent your chapter well today. Larry Bassow, Chico State’s Greek Advisor, has these best interests for Greeks at heart. In fall of 2005, Larry took the position, seeing it as a challenge to help the Chico State Greek System achieve a higher standard in academics, community service, and philanthropy. What made Larry qualified? Larry was initiated...
