This past Monday, November 7th 2011, was one of the most important days of the school year here at Chico State. It was a day where students came together from all different organizations, fraternities, and sororities to help get donations for the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Monday was the infamous Up ‘Til Dawn.  The theme was “Game On!” so students showed up not only in letters and Chico State attire, but football jerseys too. Frisbees, pizza, drinks, cinnamon bread, shirts, and so much more were given out to students who participated. The shirts were inspirational and made it clear what...

Larry Bassow Fundraiser Chico State

The Greek Community at Chico State has made tremendous progress in the past five years, and much of that growth and development has been due to the constant hard work of Greek Life Advisor Larry Bassow. As an alumni of a Greek chapter at Chico, Larry has devoted his time and energy into truly helping students learn and take advantage of all that Greek Life has to offer them. That is why when Larry was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer this year, the entire Greek Community rallied to help him in any way they could.

Alpha Sigma Phi Winners of Diamonds are Forever

Alpha Delta Pi, Eta Rho Chapter, introduced their first Diamonds are Forever Days philanthropic event this past weekend. This weekend-long competition between the Fraternities helped their efforts to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House. The Olympics Day was held on Saturday with activities ranging from tug-o-war to a 10-man pyramid where the boys memorized and sang an ADPi chant while in their pyramid.

Sigma Chi Derby Days T-shirt

Derby Days are back!  Sigma Chi is back on campus after their year long hiatus and with them comes their popular philanthropy, Derby Days.  The week long philanthropic event is being held Sunday April 10- Friday April 15.  The week consists of the 5 sororities on campus- Alpha Phi, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Gamma Phi Beta, and Sigma Kappa – teaming up with the members of Sigma Chi to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network.  The theme this year is “It’s for the kids.”

This past weekend Gamma Phi Beta had their 2011 retreat at South Lake Tahoe. The girls enjoyed a beautiful drive with a little rain toward the last few miles. Once the girls arrived at the hotel, they immediately starting bonding. They sat at tables and ate candy while writing little notes to each other. As the night went on, the Gamma Phi’s learned more and more about each other. The evening started out with

Social media provides a ton of information about Greek Life.   You Tube especially has an endless number of both informative and purely entertaining videos about sororities and fraternities.  One such video called Top Reasons To Join a So-RAWR-ity is a parody about sororities, which was created based on information found on totalfratmove.com.  This video is hilarious, but obviously discusses many stereotypes.  Each point deserves a response: 1. You will face a lot of tough decisions when you first go off to college, these include where to live, when to have class, and what to eat, this is most people’s first...

This week, Theta Chi will be revisiting their philanthropic event War of the Roses, again the participating sororities will be Alpha Phi, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Gamma Phi Beta, and last years champions Sigma Kappa. Last spring the fraternity raised a little over $3,000 to donate to

Order of Omega

Over 350 women signed up for the Formal Recruitment process at Chico State this year, a record amount that shows the growing strength of the Greek system here in Chico. Many of the sororities chose 4-Greeks to print shirts for the various days of recruitment, including bid day. The variety and creativity of the shirts greatly added to the whole process. The five chapters, Alpha Phi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Gamma Phi Beta, Alpha Delta Pi and Sigma Kappa all welcomed over 50 new sisters to their houses. All chapters gained fantastic additions and throughout the recruitment process helped benefit their...

Group poses during the fundraiser

Down in Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, the ladies of Alpha Phi SLO put together a basketball tournament for their fundraising in which fraternities put together their teams for a day of hoops and competition with a prize of some well deserved bragging rights. The events were held on November 13th on the campus basketball courts. Alpha Phi asked $150 per team and went to local businesses and asked for an additional $75 donation and in return the companies got their names put on their tank-tops. They raised around $2,500 which went to the Alpha Phi Foundation for Cardiac Research....

War of Roses Logo

Last spring, Theta Chi unveiled their inaugural weeklong philanthropy event called War of the Roses, where the fraternity raised over $3,000 to support the Brady Campaign (an organization designed to prevent gun violence). This four-day event had each of the five sororities on campus at CSU Chico (Sigma Kappa, Alpha Phi, Αlpha Delta Pi, Αlpha Gamma Delta and Gamma Phi Beta) competing against each other in a handful of events, earning points throughout the week based on their performance in the activities. The brothers of Theta Chi were divided up evenly within each sorority to help coach the girls in...

Habitat For Humanity - Chico State

On September 25, 2010 Chico State Greeks were asked to lend a helping hand in the local Habitat for Humanity build.  A large part of being Greek is the ability and opportunity to participate in philanthropic events and give back to the community that supports us. “Habitat for Humanity provides thousands of low-income families new hope and affordable housing.  Through volunteer
