Pike-Softball Champs

It was a great day to be involved in Greek athletics this past Friday. The afternoon featured two semi-final games, a home run derby, and the championship game. The home run derby competition was in honor of Gunnar Sandberg, whose inspirational comeback after being struck in the head by a baseball about a year ago, has impacted many students at Chico State. Next spring, the first annual Gunnar Sandberg award will be given out this event to an inspirational Chico State student.

There was seemingly no better location for Pi Kappa Alpha Fireman’s Ball than the “Biggest Little City in the World.” Reno’s lights and casino atmosphere was a fresh vibe for the Pike’s and their dates. Alpha Sigma Phi Winners of Diamonds are Forever

Alpha Delta Pi, Eta Rho Chapter, introduced their first Diamonds are Forever Days philanthropic event this past weekend. This weekend-long competition between the Fraternities helped their efforts to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House. The Olympics Day was held on Saturday with activities ranging from tug-o-war to a 10-man pyramid where the boys memorized and sang an ADPi chant while in their pyramid.

Sigma Chi vs. Theta Chi Basketball 4/6

Week 5 of Fraternity basketball started with Pi Kappa Alpha and Sigma Nu. When the second half buzzer rang, the game went to PIKE with a 42-29 win over Sigma Nu. Sigma Nu’s shooting game was no match for PIKE’s heavy defense.

Chico State’s fraternities had opening day of the softball season Friday, April 1st. The first game of the season was between Kappa Sigma and Phi Delta Theta. Kappa Sigma jumped off to an early lead scoring three runs in the first inning with superb hitting displayed. Kappa Sigma let the Phi Delts gain some momentum by some sloppy base running that led to a double play to end the second inning. This week of fraternity intramural basketball began with a matchup between Sigma Nu and Sigma Chi. Sigma Nu had a great shooting game, and pulled away in the second half getting the win with a score of 32-20. Sigma Chi looks to get back on track hoping for a win against Theta Chi on April 6th. It’s that time again! 4-Greeks is preparing for their semester photo shoot to update the website gallery.  Keep your eye out for new designs and shirt styles.  Also, we are welcoming a couple of new chapters to our team: Pi Kappa Alpha and Alpha Sigma Phi! Pi Kappa Alpha is an international fraternity with over 220 chapters. Even though the organization is so prominent among Greeks, little is known about its origin here in Chico, California. Nic Alonzo, the current President of the Lambda Psi chapter at Chico State came from the Sacramento chapter in search of something bigger out of his fraternity experience. He began the process of expanding to Chico in November of 2008. Masks, glitter and beads surrounded downtown Chico on Saturday night. Alpha Delta Pi and Pi Kappa Alpha came together for a Mardi Gras themed t-shirt dance. Mardi Gras is traditionally celebrated in New Orleans on Bourbon Street to celebrate the final day before the Lenten season. The social was held at Arabian Nights located on Broadway Street making Broadway feel as if it actually was Bourbon Street. This social was unique because it demonstrated the close bond between the two chapters. Pi Kappa Alpha - Founders Day - Snow

March 1st, 1868 was the illustrious date when the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity was founded, based on principles of developing men of integrity and fostering a lifelong fraternal experience. In Chico, the Lambda Psi Chapter decided to celebrate this 143rd birthday with a brotherhood event at the Pike house. Along with a BBQ including burgers, nachos, and sodas, the fire-pit in the backyard was roaring all evening, providing warmth in the 40 plus degree weather. With yet another new fraternity on campus, competition was fierce between the ten chapters. Kappa Sigma welcomed 27 new members to their fraternity, the largest amount of all the fraternities on campus. The newest fraternity on campus, Alpha Sigma Phi, added 13 fresh faces.
